Brief description of the program

The Cornélio Procópio Campus, one of the eleven UTFPR campuses, was created through the Federal Government's Program for the Expansion and Improvement of Technical Education, pursuant to Ministerial Order No. 67 of February 6, 1987, Jorge Konder Bornhausen, and opened in 1993 by the Minister of Education and Sport, Murílio de Avellar Hingel. Since its inauguration, it has offered the Technical Course in the area of Electrotechnics and has become a center of educational reference, not only in the region, but also in other states of the Federation.

In 1996, with the extinction of the possibility of offering Integrated Technical Education to the High School, it was decided that the High School and the Higher Technology Courses would be implemented. Thus, in 1999, the Campus began to offer the Superior Courses in Technology in Electrotechnology, Technology in Mechanics and Technology in Informatics. In 2003, all Technology Courses offered underwent the Ministry of Education (MEC) recognition process with concept “A” and were renamed to Technology Courses in Industrial Automation, Industrial Maintenance and Information Systems Development.

In 2007, after the transformation of the Federal Center of Technological Education of Paraná (CEFET-PR) into Federal Technological University of Paraná (UTFPR), the courses of Electrical Industrial Engineering and Mechanical Industrial Engineering were opened aiming to train human resources to meet the needs of productive sectors in development.

Graduate studies (specializations) have been offered to the community since 2003, notably the Specialization Course in Automation and Industrial Process Control, which will have its eighth edition in the first half of 2010. The monographs present solutions focused on technological needs. The titles of the monographs defended in 2008 are: Automation Elements of a Water Supply System; Boiler Automation; PBL Study Applied to Industrial Networks; Automation Master Plan: Digital Management, Operation and Control System; Protection and Control System with IEDs Using GOOSE Communication and IEC61850 Standard; Magazine Automation of a Textile Machine; Control of Alcohol Distillation Columns Using Fuzzy Logic; Elipse Scada Application Development for Fieldbus Fondation Network using TAG OPC; Green Coffee Warehouse Blend Process Optimization; Radio Frequency Identification Systems - RFID; Energy Efficiency in Residential and Industrial Lighting Projects; Automation for Chicken Farm; Technology PIMS- Plant Information Management System from OSISOFT; Rockweel Type Control System Analysis for Cogeneration; A Fast Database Analysis for Data Mining of Sugar and Alcohol Plants; Automation of the Drive and Control System of a Sugar Cane Mill; Control System Analysis for Transient Biomass Cogeneration with Process. Through the Specialization Course in Automation and Control of Industrial Processes and the defended monographs, there is the validation of the needs of the region in the area of training of skilled labor to act in the regional productive arrangement.
The research groups composed by the permanent professors of the proposal are certified by the institution and are part of the CNPQ database. They are the following: Automation and Control of Electrical and Industrial Processes; Automation and Systems; Industrial Electronics and Electrical Drives; Instrumentation, Modeling, Control and Applications; Control and Optimization of Dynamic Systems.

In 2008, the 342 m2 Campus Cornélio Procópio Campus Integrated Control and Automation Research Center (CIPECA) was inaugurated, divided into rooms for research teachers, laboratories for the development of experimental activities, a study room, a computer lab and meeting room, plus management, desk and storeroom environments. The purpose of CIPECA is to support the conduct of high-level research by offering infrastructure for researchers to develop projects in the lines of electro-electronic drives and control and automation of systems.

In 2009, the Proposal for the Creation of the Electrical Engineering Graduate Program - Master (PPGEE) of the Cornélio Procópio Campus was approved by COEPP, Resolution No. 006/09 of March 13, 2009. The project of this stricto sensu graduate program is the result of the articulation between researchers from research groups, supported by the appropriate infrastructure (CIPECA) and based on the existing qualified faculty. The proposal was sent to the Higher Education Personnel Improvement Coordination (CAPES) on April 08, 2009.
The PPGEE is evaluated by the Engineering Area Committee IV.

Description of the research lines

Electro-electronic Drives
The research line Electro-electronic Drives is related to the issues of electro-mechanical energy conversion, electronic switching, modeling and simulation of industrial processes. This creates a link between the various regional production processes, leveraging the development in northern Paraná, and the training of researchers with outstanding performance in the industrial centers.

Systems Control and Automation
The Systems Control and Automation research line is intended for research, design, development, implementation, characterization, performance evaluation and maintenance of industrial automation systems, such as flexible manufacturing systems, robotics, distributed digital control systems, modeling and simulation of industrial processes, embedded systems and development and improvement of manufacturing methods.
