About the PPGSE

The general objective of the course is to complement the academic education of professionals in the electrical area (CAPES Engineering IV assessment area) through graduate courses, in order to enable them in the search for solutions to new problems related to issues: energy processing and analysis, automation and instrumentation.

Speficic Objectives

At the end of the course, the Master in Electrical Engineering from the Automation and Power Systems area will be able to:

- Propose and develop scientific research in the area;
- Develop critical mass capable of solving engineering problems, generating and disseminating technical and scientific knowledge; -
- Lead P&D projects in their respective companies; -
 - Specify, implement and develop new technologies that result in higher energy efficiency;
 - Develop technologies for sustainable and renewable energy generation and processing;
 - Develop and implement more modern and innovative technologies that result in the improvement of existing industrial processes;
 - Develop measuring instruments, improve experimental techniques and their technological applications;
 - Develop capabilities for analysis, operation, control and protection of electrical power systems.

Concentration Area

  Automation and Energy Systems
 This focus area encompasses power systems, where the planning, operation and control of the electricity supply are located, as well as the optimal monitoring and automation of these systems and equipment involved in the intensive use of energy. Increasingly, power systems and their automation are becoming more complex, requiring advanced technologies to meet growing demand, an interconnected system that spans virtually the entire country, with increasingly sophisticated management and control, making use of modern knowledge from various scientific areas. In order to keep up with the increasing demands for the supply of quality energy as well as the efficient use of energy, advanced tools and modern mathematical techniques are needed, allied to new sensing, control and automation technologies, whose developments are the subject of research. from the Automation and Energy Systems area of the UTFPR Graduate Program in Energy Systems.

Research Lines

  Energy Processing and Analysis
 Energy Processing and Analysis is a line of research that ranges from the mathematical modeling of power generation, transmission and distribution systems, to the development of new technologies for the creation of devices and solutions. for energy management and processing, covering operation, control and protection of electrical systems. Among its objectives, we can mention: i.) the static conversion of electricity in its various forms, aiming to properly control the power flow with high efficiency and quality; ii.) electronic energy processing, seeking forms of energy conditioning aiming at distributed electrical generation; iii.) the development of active filtration systems and development of topologies to produce high power factor energy; iv.) industrial application in the field of electric energy, such as lighting converters, power supplies, electric machine drive, static converter control and uninterruptible power systems; v.) the processing of energy from renewable sources.

  Automation and Instrumentation Systems
 The Automation and Instrumentation Systems research line seeks to develop actuation, control and monitoring techniques focusing on energy conversion systems, power generation from renewable sources, smart grids, as well as on industrial processes in general. To this end, advanced instrumentation techniques based on various modalities such as optical, electrical and acoustic sensing using advanced data processing tools are applied. In this context, robust signal processing tools are sought, such as tomographic image reconstruction algorithms and adaptive signal processing. It is also within the scope of this line to find efficient ways to propagate sensor and actuator data to a remote centralizing point.

Laboratories

PPGSE has laboratories exclusively for the Masters course. To meet the demands of teachers and students, PPGSE also has an academic secretariat and a Maintenance and Heritage Sector (SEMAP), shared with the Academic Department of Electrotechnics (DAELT).
 The investment in exclusive spaces for research, with potential for technology transfer, generation of scientific production indicators from scientific articles and patent filings, training of human resources (undergraduate and graduate) are the main justifications for their creation. environments.
