Professional Master’s degree in Chemistry in the National Network
The Professional Master’s degree in Chemistry in the National Network – PROFQUI is a blended-learning master’s program (stricto sensu) in the area of Chemistry offered nationwide.
It comprises a network of Higher Education Institutions, brought together by the Open University of Brazil/Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES, in the Portuguese acronym), coordinated by the School of Chemistry of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and the Brazilian Chemical Society, and supported by the associated institutions.
Lines of Research
LR1 – New technologies and communication: This line of research reflects upon the production and use of information and communication technologies and the technological developments in teaching/learning processes. It also explores scientific dissemination as one of the central aspects of the production of scientific knowledge from the cultural socio-historical and theoretical-methodological standpoint. On the other hand, it seeks to produce multimedia materials of a didactic-pedagogical nature to contribute to a better teaching performance of chemistry, focusing on mobile platforms as vehicles for the dissemination of a school culture on chemistry.
LR2 – Environmental chemistry and energy: This line of research investigates the historical, cultural and new scientific, theoretical and experimental approaches of environmental and energy processes. It addresses the relationship between chemistry and the environment, aiming to be a modality of science that manifests itself in society converging with technology. It seeks to develop products and processes design for classroom use, laboratory and non-formal spaces, to evaluate teaching materials and to study the theoretical/methodological tools, as well as the scientific grounds that justify them.
LR3 – The chemistry of Life: This line of research addresses the historical, cultural and new scientific, theoretical and experimental approaches of the chemistry of natural products, drugs and biological processes. It reflects upon the relationship between chemistry and other subjects in the school curriculum, such as Biology and Food Science, in primary and secondary school level. It seeks to develop multidisciplinary projects and dynamics for classroom use, laboratory and non-formal spaces, to evaluate and suggest teaching materials focusing on the topic of Life, to study theoretical/methodological tools, as well as the scientific grounds required for their development.
LR4 - New materials: This line of research investigates the historical, cultural and new scientific, theoretical and experimental approaches of the chemistry of new materials and their innovation processes, social impacts, risks and limitations in their contemporary multiple dimensions. It reflects upon the relationship between chemistry and other subjects in the school curriculum, such as Physics and Mathematics, in primary and secondary school level. It seeks to foster multidisciplinary projects and dynamics for classroom use, laboratory and non-formal spaces, to evaluate and suggest teaching materials focusing on the topic of Life, to study theoretical/methodological tools, as well as the scientific grounds required for their development.
